On September 28, 2023 The first day of the two-day Fifth International Scientific Conference on "Modernization trends in economic and cultural life in Vidin and Tomoshko (18th-20th centuries)" was held in the Cultural Center "Jules Pascin", organized by the State Archives - Vidin with the assistance of the Municipality of Vidin.
The conference was opened by the Director of the "State Archive" Department - Vidin, Mrs. Svetlana Krasteva, who thanked the Municipality of Vidin for its support. She emphasized that with the research and reports presented, new pages of the history of the region will be revealed and noted that previous conferences have attracted the attention of other scientists, which has inspired the continuation of the tradition.
During the first day, various scientific papers were presented , including topics such as:
“A group of icons from the Vidin church "St. Panteleimon" in the National Church Museum in Sofia”, "History of the Church of the Ascension of Christ in the village of Slana Bara and the orders of Dicho Zograf in Vidin diocese", "Some of the Vidin Ottoman governors in the 19th century", and "From the correspondence of a Vidin merchant after the Crimean War”.
The second day of the conference, September 29, continued with new reports, among which: "Cultural life in the Vlach villages of Vidin during the wedding ceremony (XIX - XX centuries)", "The construction of the railway line to Vidin, opened on July 1, 1923", "Primary schooling in Timochkom from 1944. to 1947. years" and "Higher modernism and the transformation of Agriculture and Rural Life in the Vidin Region, 1950-1990'.
During the coffee break, the participants of the conference were welcomed and served in the information center "Jul Pascin" with catering products provided by the students of "Mihalaki Georgiev" School - Vidin.
